Retail-istic Customer Advice

It’s 2018. Online shopping is at an all-time high, however, retail stores are still going strong-ish. With retail stores making proper investments they could be around a bit longer than expected. Perhaps, even, they never go away completely.

That being said, people have become way too accustomed to instant gratification. From streaming and on-demand content for entertainment to overnight shipping of anything, they order online. People have forgotten how to wait and with that, they have no patience. When a person walks into a store they expect the store to be in stock of everything all the time. Which is understandable, given how companies advertise.

On the off chance that a store doesn’t have what a person wants on that given day, please don’t argue with the store employee.  They don’t have control over what they have in the store. They are there to help you find what you need and if they can’t they will find another store that has it in stock. They will even put it on hold for you if you ask. In some cases, they can even ship it to your house. If they can’t ship it to your house, they can ship it to that store and the customer can pick it up at a later date.

Store employees understand people are in a rush and normally are disappointed when they can’t get the customer what they are asking for right away. The best tip one can give a customer is to not bother yelling at the store employee and just ask for the manager. The manager has a little bit more pull on what they can give to customers who are upset.

Which brings up another point. The average age of a customer is of adult age. Meaning eighteen or above. Please, act your age while in the store. Do not scream at the cashier when something is coming up wrong, They have no control over how the computer reads the barcodes. As the old saying goes, ‘you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.’ Normally a cashier can only do so many things to fix the situation and if they don’t know what they are doing they will call over their manager to get the issue cleared up.

I bring this topic up in this way because over the weekend I was in a store by my house and saw a customer screaming their head off at some poor cashier, that looked like she was in high school. And what was the customer yelling about?? a two month expired coupon!
