Snackage After Close: Chicken Wings
Chicken Wings; quite honestly one of my favorite foods in the WORLD. These morsels of heaven are the perfect comfort food, as well as an excellent choice for watching a sporting event at your local bar. And, to top it all off, they can come in a multitude of ways.
For starters, you have the choice of either traditional (bone-in), or boneless wings. Personally, I do enjoy the boneless wings. Boneless, although a little more fattening, provide the perfect solution to the “napkin dilemma.” They keep you from having to wipe your hands and face off after every bite, allowing you to hold on to that beer for a little bit longer.
Next, you have to choose what sauce and rubs to prepare them with. Me personally, a nice batch of garlic parmesan wings really does the trick. Paired with a cool, refreshing beer during a basketball game or a fight just makes my night even better.
Speaking of beer, what kind of brew sounds good with garlic parmesan wings? Honestly, you can’t go wrong with a lighter ale to keep your stomach from getting too full.
Now I get it, there seems to be a “lighter beer” pattern going on with my articles. But trust me, would you want a heavy IPA filling your gut while you scarf down wings at the bar? Do you want to be sitting there, uncomfortable, during the second half of the basketball game?
I sure as hell wouldn’t!
Now, the great thing about wings is that they are readily available during this time of night. Many places are still open to serve wings, especially for takeout. Personally, I don’t like to be that asshole who walks in to eat at 10 or 11 o’clock at night on a weekday. The people there are trying to clean up and leave as soon as closing time hits. So I would WITHOUT A DOUBT go with takeout if it came down to it.
But hey, to each their own.
Now the question is, are you a chicken wings fan? And if so, what’s your favorite kind of wing? Let me know in the comments below, or on one of The Midwestern Barfly Gazette’s various social media accounts;
