The Bears Draft Was…….Actually Good?
I’m not going to lie to you, I was expecting nothing but BAD from the Bears first round pick this year. In my head, I was expecting another bust that wouldn’t be able to play their first season due to unforeseen circumstances.
But, after seeing them go with Roquan Smith, I was pleasantly surprised.
Now instead of going through all of the intangibles and stats that you’ve heard twelve times over leading up to the draft, I’ll just give you my takes on what I see.
So, I love this pick because we need more young linebackers on the team that can drop into coverage like he can. I know, I know, he has the ability to put pressure on the quarterback with his quickness. But I am not a fan of Trevathan, and I feel like a guy with Smith’s speed dropped in coverage would be a FANTASTIC addition to Vic Fangio’s defense.
If you don’t believe me though, go find highlights of his time in the playoffs. The dude was a BEAST! He had 24 tackles, with a sack and 3.5 tackles for loss in the two games. When the lights were the brightest, he was able to show up!
This is a quality pick from a front office that has seen it’s share of duds in the pass. I am excited to see what Smith will accomplish in Chicago, and can’t wait for football season.
But what do you think of the Bear’s first round pick? Was it a good one, or would you have rather seen them go a different route? Let me know in the comments below.
