If You Wear Shoes Into A Store That You Are Planning On Returning, I Hope You Get Athletes Foot!

This has to be one of my FAVORITE stories that my buddy has told me about his time as a cashier. Apparently,¬†he had a customer come up to him one day and ask if he can return a pair of shoes that he bought because they were “hurting his feet.” The kicker; HE WORE THE SHOES INTO THE STORE. But, since “the customer’s always right;” my friend told the guy yes and that he needed to go get his new shoes and bring them back up to the register.

(Side Note: To provide a little context; my friend works in a VERY wealthy part of town. And this customer fit that bill TO A T!)

The problem though is, after five to ten minutes of looking, it turned out that they didn’t have his size. The only thing that they could do for him is return the shoes in the store and order them online. However, the result of that would be the customer leaving the store barefoot.

He told me that the customer was PISSED, saying that it was “inexcusable” that a store would make a customer leave their building without shoes. And my friend, being the professional that he is, informed the individual that the shoes needed to be returned if he wanted to order them online.

At one point, the customer even wanted to see the manager; (like that was going to change anything). And what a SHOCKER; the manager ended up telling him the SAME EXACT THING!

But even though he was so “offended” at the thought of leaving a store barefoot, he STILL went through with returning the shoes, and ordered a new pair. Hell, I’m surprised the guy didn’t end up flipping my friend the bird on the way out the door.

“So let me get this straight Kellen; a customer walked into a store wanting to return the shoes that he had ON HIS FEET. Then, when your friend’s store didn’t have his size and offered to order them for him, the customer got mad at THE EMPLOYEES for his own damn mistake?”

You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT anonymous article voice! Due to the customer’s own lack of thinking/judgement, it was actually HIS FAULT that he left my friend’s store barefoot. The members of the store did everything they could to help him, but he was too short-sighted and thick-headed to realize that.

But seriously, who does that? Who wears a pair of shoes into a store, and have the AUDACITY to tell the employees that they want to return them? That’s not just rude; it’s also gross.

Honestly, what employee in their right mind wants to deal with a sweaty, smelly pair of shoes? Because customers need to realize that there are people behind the scenes who have to deal with the crap that they bring them. Customers need to realize that each store has a procedure for dealing with items that are unsellable. And because of your actions, that poor kid behind the scenes has to deal with your shoes that smell like hot garbage mixed with b.o. and boiled onions.

SO, to all of the folks that have to deal with this crap on a daily basis, I salute you! And to the customers, like this man, who think their crap doesn’t stink……..FUCK YOU!
